Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
- Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
- Transfer to a hotel in Moshi for an orientation and equipment check.
- Overnight in Moshi.
Day 2: Shira Gate to Shira 1 Camp
- After breakfast, drive to the Shira Gate.
- Begin the trek through the Shira Plateau, a unique high-altitude desert plateau.
- Hike to Shira 1 Camp for the night.
- Overnight camping.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
- Trek across the Shira Plateau, enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
- Arrive at Shira 2 Camp.
- Overnight camping.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
- Descend to Barranco Valley, passing the Lava Tower en route.
- Overnight camping at Barranco Camp.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Climb the Barranco Wall, a challenging but exhilarating part of the route.
- Continue to Karanga Camp, with fantastic views of the southern ice fields.
- Overnight camping.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- Ascend to Barafu Camp, the last stop before the summit.
- Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt.
- Overnight camping at Barafu Camp.
Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and descent to Mweka Camp
- Begin the summit attempt at midnight, reaching the summit, Uhuru Peak, at sunrise.
- Descend back to Barafu Camp and then to Mweka Camp.
- Celebrate your accomplishment!
- Overnight camping at Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and return to Moshi
- Descend to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates.
- Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
- Overnight in Moshi.
