Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
  • Transfer to a hotel in Moshi for an orientation and equipment check.
  • Overnight in Moshi.

Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp

  • Drive to Lemosho Gate, complete park formalities, and meet your guides and porters.
  • Begin the trek through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
  • Overnight camping.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Hike through the rainforest, eventually emerging into the heath and moorland zone.
  • Reach Shira 1 Camp.
  • Overnight camping.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

  • Continue the trek across the Shira Plateau, offering stunning views.
  • Arrive at Shira 2 Camp.
  • Overnight camping.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

  • Descend to Barranco Valley, passing the Lava Tower en route.
  • Overnight camping at Barranco Camp.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Climb the Barranco Wall, a challenging but exhilarating part of the route.
  • Continue to Karanga Camp, with fantastic views of the southern ice fields.
  • Overnight camping.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Ascend to Barafu Camp, the last stop before the summit.
  • Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt.
  • Overnight camping at Barafu Camp.

Day 8: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and descent to Mweka Camp

  • Begin the summit attempt at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise.
  • Descend back to Barafu Camp and then to Mweka Camp.
  • Celebrate your achievement!
  • Overnight camping at Mweka Camp.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and return to Moshi

  • Descend to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates.
  • Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
  • Overnight in Moshi.
