This is the newest and one of the most picturesque routes on the mountain, offering diverse landscapes and vegetation, spectacular views from all the different sides of the mountain and taking you to the quiet and largely untouched northern slopes.
This is also one of the longest routes on the mountain, giving you maximum time to acclimatize to the altitude and thereby increasing your chances of successfully summiting.

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
- Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
- Transfer to a hotel in Moshi for an orientation and equipment check.
- Overnight in Moshi.
Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp
- Drive to Londorossi Gate, complete park formalities, and meet your guides and porters.
- Begin the trek through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
- Overnight camping.
Day 3: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp to Shira 1 Camp
- Hike through the rainforest, eventually emerging into the heath and moorland zone.
- Reach Shira 1 Camp.
- Overnight camping.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
- Continue the trek across the Shira Plateau, offering stunning views.
- Arrive at Shira 2 Camp.
- Overnight camping.
Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Moir Hut
- Ascend to Lava Tower and acclimatize.
- Continue to Moir Hut, situated in the high alpine desert.
- Overnight camping.
Day 6: Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp
- Trek through a remote and less-traveled part of the mountain.
- Arrive at Buffalo Camp, offering fantastic views.
- Overnight camping.
Day 7: Buffalo Camp to School Hut
- Climb to the Third Cave, then head to School Hut.
- Prepare for the summit bid.
- Overnight camping.
Day 8: Summit Day – School Hut to Uhuru Peak and descent to Mweka Camp
- Start the summit attempt at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise.
- Descend back to School Hut and further down to Mweka Camp.
- Celebrate your achievement!
- Overnight camping at Mweka Camp.
Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and return to Moshi
- Descend to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates.
- Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
- Overnight in Moshi.
