6 Days Trekking Tour

Nicknamed the ‘Coca cola’ route, Marangu is the classic and oldest route up Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also the only route where hikers overnight stay in huts and not in tents. The ascent is constant and moderate but the section for summit Uhuru peak is difficult. The route follows the same path up and down it can be booked as a private departure (any day) whereby you choose your own team mates or single.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
  • Transfer to a hotel in Moshi for an orientation and equipment check.
  • Overnight in Moshi.

Day 2: Moshi to Marangu Gate and Mandara Hut

  • Transfer to Marangu Gate and complete park entry formalities.
  • Begin the trek through the lush rainforest to Mandara Hut.
  • Overnight camping at Mandara Hut.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

  • Continue through the rainforest and then into the heath and moorland zone.
  • Arrive at Horombo Hut with panoramic views.
  • Overnight camping at Horombo Hut.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

  • Spend the day at Horombo Hut for acclimatization.
  • Optionally, you can take a short trek to Zebra Rocks.
  • Overnight camping at Horombo Hut.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Trek to Kibo Hut, the last stop before the summit.
  • Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt.
  • Overnight camping at Kibo Hut.

Day 6: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and descent to Horombo Hut

  • Begin the summit attempt at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise.
  • Descend back to Kibo Hut and continue to Horombo Hut.
  • Celebrate your achievement!
  • Overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate and return to Moshi

  • Descend to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates.
  • Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
  • Overnight in Moshi.
