Overview
The Lemosho Route is a beautiful and scenic way to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. Tour Plan
Arrival:
- Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
- Transfer to Moshi (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour drive).
- Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Morning:
- Breakfast at your hotel.
- Depart from Moshi and drive to the Lemosho Gate (approximately 3-4 hours).
- After registration at the gate, start your climb through the lush rainforest to your first camp.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 6-8 km
Altitude Gain: 2,650 m (Lemosho Gate) to 2,700 m (Mti Mkubwa Camp)
Afternoon:
- Trek through the rainforest, which is home to diverse wildlife and beautiful flora.
- Set up camp at Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Camp at Mti Mkubwa
Morning:
- After breakfast, begin your ascent through the forest and into the moorland zone.
- As you gain altitude, the scenery starts to change, and you’ll get your first glimpse of the iconic Kilimanjaro summit.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 8-10 km
Altitude Gain: 2,700 m (Mti Mkubwa) to 3,500 m (Shira 1 Camp)
Afternoon:
- The landscape will open up as you reach the Shira Plateau.
- Set up camp at Shira 1 Camp, one of the most scenic campsites on the mountain.

Morning:
- After breakfast, hike towards Lava Tower (4,600m), an impressive rock formation.
- This trek will help with acclimatization, as it involves some moderate climbing to a higher altitude.
- Continue to Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll spend the night.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 8-10 km
Altitude Gain: 3,500 m (Shira 1) to 3,850 m (Shira 2)
Afternoon:
- Enjoy the panoramic views and rest at Shira 2 Camp. This is one of the most beautiful locations on Kilimanjaro.
- The altitude gain will help your body acclimatize to the higher elevations.

Accommodation: Camp at Shira 2
Morning:
- After breakfast, continue trekking across the Shira Plateau and ascend gradually towards Barafu Camp.
- Along the way, you’ll cross the Karanga Valley.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 7-8 km
Altitude Gain: 3,850 m (Shira 2) to 4,600 m (Barafu Camp)
Afternoon:
- Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon and take time to rest.
- This is the last campsite before the summit attempt, and your guide will prepare you for the early morning summit trek.

Early Morning:
- After a light breakfast, begin your summit attempt around midnight or 1:00 AM.
- You will first ascend towards Stella Point (5,730 m) on the crater rim, then continue for the final stretch to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
- The ascent will be slow and steady to minimize the effects of altitude sickness.
- Reach Uhuru Peak by sunrise or early morning, and take in the incredible views from the highest point in Africa.
Summit Highlights:
- Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – The ultimate reward of reaching the highest point on Kilimanjaro.
- Enjoy breathtaking views of the glaciers, crater, and surrounding landscapes.
Morning:
- After celebrating, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch.
Afternoon:
- Continue your descent to Mweka Camp, where you will spend your final night on the mountain.
- The descent is steep, but your body will be more accustomed to the altitude.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 5-6 km to Uhuru Peak, and 12-13 km down to Mweka Camp
Altitude Loss: 4,600 m (Barafu) to 3,100 m (Mweka Camp)

Accommodation: Camp at Mweka
Morning:
- After breakfast, begin the final descent to Mweka Gate.
- The trail is much easier now as you pass through the rainforest once again.
Trekking Distance: Approx. 10-12 km
Altitude Loss: 3,100 m (Mweka Camp) to 1,640 m (Mweka Gate)
Lunch:
- Arrive at Mweka Gate, sign out, and receive your summit certificate (for those who reached Stella Point or Uhuru Peak).
- After a short rest, transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and celebration.
